2pm. In Baeza (fairly remote place in the Andes 3 hrs into journey from Quito to Tena) a particularly well preened teenage girl got on the bus; jeans mini skirt ,tight pink top, heels clutching only her mobile phone looking like she was ready to hit the town. It makes the mind boggle, here there are so many ways of living running side by side. People get on the bus with bags of vegetables, machetes wrapped in newspaper, old Adidas trousers and gumboots. Other kids wearing T-shirts that haven’t seen soap for some months, selling their wears, mostly DVDs and chicle. Sometimes I feel very overdressed but mostly these days particularly under dressed!
